Samantha Beach decided that she would carry on the family tradition of baking exquisite and delicious baked goods, following in her grandfather’s, grandmother’s and mother’s foot steps.

Samantha graduated from Winona State University in 2009 with a degree in Sociology and Gerontology.  After several years of working with people with disabilities, Samantha decided to return to the family roots and open her own Cake Shop in Plainview, MN on April 24, 2011.

Samantha’s grandfather, Edward Yahnke, worked at the famous Bloedow’s Bakery in Winona, MN starting in 1921.  He later worked Federal Bakery (the precursor to the Sunbeam Bakery) in Winona, MN as the head baker.  He ended his bakery career at Randall’s Bakery, along with his wife, Bernice Yahnke.  Their daughter, Nancy (Beach), also worked at Randall’s Bakery, starting in 1964, as the head decorator for over 20 years.  After working at Randall’s, she helped start Market Foods Bakery. Nancy opened her own Cake Shop from 2000 to 2005, along with Samantha, in the Center Court of the Kennsington Building in Winona.  Nancy also made cakes out of her home for many years and has made nearly 4,000 wedding cakes along with thousands of other cakes.  Over the years, Nancy became known in the region as the “Cake Lady” of Winona.  Nancy has a certificate from the Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton, WI and has taught decorating classes and spoken at regional and national seminars.

Samantha brings this rich multi-generational experience to her Cake Shop.  With many years as a baker, designer, and decorator, Sam creates unique, one-of-a-kind cakes and cupcakes for many satisfied customers as the “Cake Lady’s Daughter” and “Cupcake”.
